Things to do in Cornwall

St Michael's Green Journey

Stage 1 - The Green Team

When a large hotel and spa complex, like St Michael’s decides that they want to radically review their environmental practices and make a commitment to operate sustainably, things do not just happen. It takes a group of people intent on making a difference and pushing through the changes. The Green Team is made up of representatives from each department who meet up periodically to discuss progress and identify new areas to be tackled. The Green Team provide the backbone for any changes made to the environmental practices at St Michael’s Hotel and Spa and there are number of reasons why this approach is so successful:

Because each member is actively involved in the department they represent, they are able to highlight areas that need attention with little difficulty. Because we are trying to implement changes in a manner that does not increase the workload of our staff team, the Green Team representatives can implement changes in their department with an understanding of this.

It provides a point of reference for colleagues. All our staff are encouraged to help us meet our targets, so if they have any ideas, solutions or criticisms they have someone at hand with whom they can air their views.

  • The meetings are often seen as a trouble shooting exercise. Green Team members discuss any problems they are having working on the “two heads are better than one” principle!
