Pendennis Castle

Falmouth

Falmouth isn't just about fantastic beaches and boats bobbing in the bay - it has a rich heritage and fascinating history.

Fill up on a hearty Cornish breakfast, take a stroll along the seafront, breath in the sea air and head for the unmissable sight of Pendennis Castle perched on its headland and watching over Falmouth Bay. Built over 450 years ago by Henry VIII the granite stronghold sits opposite its sister castle in St Mawes making a powerful defence for the entrance to Falmouth harbour. With plenty to keep the history buffs interested, lots of space for the littles to run around and huge lawns for dripping ice creams and lazy picnics – it’s a great family day out.

Top Tip – don’t miss the medieval jousting they hold in the summer holidays. Soak in the crash of armour, the thundering of horses hoofs on the turf and the splintering of wood and you’ll be whisked back in time.
