St Mawes

A Day In St Mawes

Falmouth isn't just about fantastic beaches and boats bobbing in the bay - it has a rich heritage and fascinating history. We've picked out some of our favourite days out to help you explore more.

An easy walk into town and down to the waterfront will take you to Prince of Wales Pier where you can hop aboard the brightly coloured ferry and enjoy a short trip through the bobbing boats of Falmouth Harbour, past the huge ships moored up at the docks and out into the wilds of the estuary.

Arriving in the little village of St Mawes you’ll have plenty to explore – quirky shops, tasty delis, old world pubs and the clover leaf shaped St Mawes Castle. Follow the coast path past the castle for a lovely easy walk along the riverside with great views back towards Falmouth.

Top Tip – if you fancy stretching your legs after one too many pub lunches then take the tiny ferry over to Place and follow the coastpath towards the sea and St Anthony’s Lighthouse snuggled low down on the cliffs. Any 80s kids among you will probably be a little overexcited to know that St Anthony’s is the lighthouse from the classic ‘Fraggle Rock’.
