Top Proposal Places
So, you are thinking of popping the question. Congrats! Now you’ve chosen the lucky person, and possibly the ring, it’s time to choose a special place for the big moment. Cornwall is a romantic place at any time of the year – crashing waves, secluded coves, starry nights and stunning sunsets – so it really is the perfect place for a proposal. We’ve rounded up a top selection of proposal spots:
How about being able to say you got engaged in a rainforest? No need to travel to exotic lands – you can do this in Cornwall at the world famous Eden Project. There are plenty of quiet corners perfect for a private moment between the two of you or if you are feeling daring then how about popping the question high above the rainforest canopy on the aerial walkway.
What could be more romantic than a proposal high above the crashing seas of the dramatic north coast amid the ruins of Tintagel Castle – it has inspired writers and artists throughout history and is associated with the romantic legends of King Arthur & Guinevere and Tristan & Isolde.
On the beach
This one takes a little organising but is very dramatic and leads to some fantastic engagement photos! Also, it keeps the locals tongues wagging for weeks wondering who the mystery couple were and was the answer ‘yes’! Pick a beach such as Perranporth, Godrevy or Watergate where the tide goes out a nice long way leaving clean, hard sand and most importantly is overlooked from the cliffs. Armed with a big stick or a rake (or helpful friends that will do it for you!) write the magic words in the sand and then casually suggest to your beloved that you go for a little cliff walk – at the spot overlooking your words in the sand it’s time to drop to one knee!
There are several places on the Helford River (try St Anthony or Helford River Boats) where you can hire small motor boats. Pack a picnic, some champagne and head out for a romantic day exploring the quiet creeks of the Helford. You can find a secret cove, have a wild swim and pop the question at the perfect moment.
The Minack is an open air theatre carved into the cliffs above the beautiful beach of Porthcurno. With stunning views over the bay what better place to pop the question? There is even a Juliet balcony giving you the chance to play Romeo and proclaim your undying love!
The Flying Fish
Maybe you fancy a more public proposal and the chance for a cheering crowd to congratulate you both! Why not book a table at our Flying Fish restaurant at sunset – with floor to ceiling windows overlooking Falmouth Bay and champagne on ice this is the perfect chance to surprise your partner! Just give us a call and we will be delighted to be in on your secret and help make your night very special – our chefs can even create a magical chocolate message!
If you fancy a spot of chivalrous romance then St Mawes Castle is for you! With towers, turrets, spiral staircases, gardens and views out over Falmouth Bay and St Anthony lighthouse you can find your perfect spot! This clover leaf shaped castle sits low on the coast opposite Falmouth and is quieter and prettier than its sister castle, Pendennis. And now it has a special place in your heart you can even return to the castle to get married if you like!
Considered to be one of the most beautiful beaches in the world why not spend a day exploring the coves and cliffs before a romantic sunset picnic. Pop the question over champagne and watch the sunset together…picture perfect!
Get lost in your love for each other at these gardens! With the outbreak of the First World War the thousand acres of gardens were lost under brambles and ivy. After a chance discovery in 1990 the gardens were restored and are beautiful to visit at any time of the year. With secret corners, sea views and lush lawns you will be spoilt for choice.
