Pick your spot overlooking Falmouth Bay, then sit back and enjoy lashings of Rodda's clotted cream and jolly good dollops of Boddington's Cornish berry jam on freshly baked scones. Or for an extra special treat, try a Champagne afternoon tea - including a glass of sophisticated Jacquart demi sec, finger sandwiches, mini desserts and moreish cream teas.
Fresh from Cornwall’s larder, our summer afternoon tea menu is served between 2.30pm and 5.30pm and features ingredients from these local businesses:
Over 120 years on, the Rodda family are still crafting their clotted cream the same way, by gently baking rich local cream until it’s thick, unctuous and thoroughly dollopable. Which is why it’s been awarded Protected Designation of Origin status, along with the likes of champagne and Parma ham.
The crowning glory of Rodda’s has always been its delicious golden crust, which is especially rich and delicate because of the quality of their Cornish milk and the way they bake it. The crust is a sign of quality and rather like gold-top milk, where all the tastiest bits rise to the surface. It’s a protective seal of freshness for the delicious, silky cream below and it’s how you know you’ve got the real deal.
Boddington’s is another locally-run family farm steeped in history. Based in the pretty fishing port of Mevagissey, the business was launched during the Second World War as a market garden. Their strawberry conserve is the flagship of their operation, and is produced wherever possible using their own grown, hand-picked, whole fruit, and only lemon juice and sugar are added.
The finished strawberry conserve is packed with fruit – 80g of fruit to 100g of conserve. It is a very soft set and delicious when spread thickly on our warm scones.
