Featured Wine of the Month
August's Wine of the Month is the perfect summer tipple, using South Africa’s signature white grape Chenin Blanc (or Steen as it is more commonly known there). It thrives really well in the warm coastal climate of South Africa’s Paarl wine region...
Chenin Blanc uses free-run juice that does not rely not on harsh pressing and crushing techniques to extract the grape juice. This ensures a higher quality of flavour and a fuller-bodied texture in the finished wine, minus the grape skins.
Warmth from the sun concentrates the lovely ripe tropical fruit flavours, whilst the refreshing vibrant and zesty acidity that is the keynote of Chenin provides its backbone. A versatile food wine, it works well with fresh Cornish seafood, chicken and summer salads.
WHAT WE THINK
Our Food and Beverage Manager Chris said: “Chenin Blanc is the perfect wine to drink whilst sharing our new seafood platter. The crisp acidity even lends itself to our indulgent plate of local fish and triple cooked chips, as it helps bring forward the true flavours of the food. It’s served by the glass or bottle all day every day at St Michaels, so there’s always an excuse to try it!”
WHAT THE EXPERT THINKS
“The very thought of this makes my mouth water. Modern but with soul, made from bush-vine Chenin, it tastes like hard white peaches with ripe pears and green mango.” Victoria Moore, The Telegraph.
There’s a disarming simplicity about the M·A·N Vintners concept: it started in 2001, with the idea of making wines that the founders wanted to buy themselves. And since there were three of them – José Conde and brothers Tyrrel and Philip Myburgh – and each of the three had a wife – the name was easy too. Marie + Anette + Nicky = M·A·N.
