Meet Marco – Our New Health Club and Spa General Manager

Marco Gasco joined the St Michaels crew this summer, so we thought it would be a great opportunity to introduce him whilst finding out his insider tips about Cornwall.

Marco has always been passionate about health and fitness and has worked in the industry for over 25 years here in the UK and in Cape Town. Most recently he was based at the Hilton resort in Kuwait which gave him the opportunity to live in and experience a vastly different culture to what he is used to. Marco brings a huge amount of fitness, membership and wellbeing experience to St Michaels – be sure to say hello if you see him in the gym.

Why did you decide to move here?

I decided to move back to the UK to be closer to my little boy Luca who is 7 and although I am still about 6 hours away from Brighton where he lives it’s a whole bunch closer than Kuwait.

What do you love most about Cornwall? 

I cannot believe that in over 14 years of living in the UK I had up until now never visited Cornwall. From the time I first set foot in the place I was astounded by its amazing beauty and immediately felt a sense of homecoming.

For someone who loves spending as much time as possible outdoors as I do, the whole area lends itself to getting out on my bicycle and just heading off to explore. Or to be honest do what I’ve been doing so far – heading from pub to pub testing the ales.

What’s your must visit / thing to do?

So many things on my list but now that I have a car – probably the first thing to do is explore the Lizard.


Running off-road in the rain. There’s also some amazing walks around Falmouth – Gylly beach to Maenporth via Swanpool is pretty impressive.

Local delicacies to try?

Cornish pasties, fudge and loads of different ales. Although by the time I’ve left the pub I have forgotten their names and have to start my testing all over again!


Most of the souvenirs down here seem to be edible or drinkable and don’t make it home with me. I’m open to suggestions.

What’s your favourite class in the gym?

I will tell you after our new class time table launches next week, but I’m already leaning towards the Bootcamp outdoors which looks great.

What’s new in the health club?

We’ll have a brand new 70+ class timetable launching which I’m very excited about.

Expect our very own classes such as R.I.P.P.E.D (resistance, intervals, plyo, power, endurance and distance), HIIT and Suspend ‘n’ Swing, as well as the latest releases from Les Mills including Body Attack, Pump, Balance and Combat.
