What’s on in June: Insider Guide

Join us for a jam-packed June this year, starting with the Fal river festival at the beginning of the month, through to the Gin festival at the end via a sea shanty, classic boat race and much more!

Fal River Festival, monday 30th May – Sunday 05th June

Fal River Festival

Join Falmouth and the surrounding areas in celebrating life in and around the Fal river. With 150 events over seven days ranging from music and drama to heritage and food, arts and crafts to gig racing (and so much more) there’s something for everyone. In it’s 11th year it’s set to be the biggest one yet.

CASTLE TO CASTLE SWIM, SUNDAY 12TH JUNE

Castle To Castle Swim, Falmouth

Watch as swimmers race across the mouth of the Fal river in this annual event. The one-mile race starts at Pendennis Castle in Falmouth and finishes at St Mawes Castle on the Roseland Peninsula.

Life’s A dream by miracle theatre at trebah, thursday 16th, friday 17TH JUNE

Don’t miss out on the chance to watch acclaimed theatre company, Miracle Theatre’s, new production in the enchanting surroundings of Trebah Garden’s outdoor amphitheatre. ‘Miracle’s first open air production for summer is a wonderful fable, filled with passion and comedy, based on Calderon’s greatest play, La Vida Es Sueño, published 20 years after Shakespeare’s death and regarded as the jewel in the crown of Spain’s golden age of literature.’

Sea Shanty Festival, Friday 17th – Sunday 19TH JUNE

Sea Shanty Festival

Run over the same dates as the Falmouth Classics Regatta this festival floods the town with maritime music from all over the world. Though there are plenty of organised events with so many shanty singers around watch out for spontaneous outburst of song as you walk through the streets! This free festival is one of the biggest in Europe and money raised is given to charity. £10,480 was raised last year for the RNLI, a charity close to the hearts of this waterside community.

Falmouth Classics, FRIDAY 17TH – SUNDAY 19TH JUNE

Falmouth Classics

Over three days watch as sail boat from all over the world compete in Falmouth’s famous sailing waters. Three exciting races over two days are held between Carrick Roads and Trefusis point with the course changing every year (and sometimes day) due to the wild nature of the sea and tides. Watch in comfort as the larger boats race past Gyllyngvase beach, right past the windows of the Flying Fish restaurant. On the Sunday be sure to catch the highlight of the regatta; the parade of Sail and Power boats headed by the Falmouth sail training ship.

Cornwall gin festival truro, saturday 25th, SUNDAY 26TH JUNE

Cornwall Gin Festival

If gin is your thing then the first ever Cornish Gin Festival may be a perfect day out, a short train or boat ride from Falmouth (no driving for optimal gin tasting), the festival will be taking place in Truro. Run by the same people who organise the Cornwall Street Food Fest this is one not to miss! Be aware though, the event is ticketed so be sure to get yours here.
