Falmouth Week

What’s On This Summer

Summer in Cornwall is a magical time of year, there's always something going on, so we've compiled our list of events you shouldn't miss this year to help you out...

HELSTON FLORA DAY, SATURDAY 7TH MAY

Flora day

Once a year the people of Helston get dressed up in their best, and children all in white, to dance through the streets in an ancient tradition to welcome in the spring. A unique festival, make sure you don’t miss out on the Hal-an-Tow, a re-enactment of the saints George and Michael’s feats. Between the dances soak up the carnival atmosphere and don’t forget to pop into the Blue Anchor pub for a pint of local brew, Spingo.

FAL RIVER FESTIVAL, MONDAY 30TH May – SUNDAY 5TH JUne

Fal River Fest

Join Falmouth and the surrounding areas in celebrating life in and around the Fal river. With 150 events over seven days ranging from music and drama to heritage and food, arts and crafts to gig racing (and so much more) there’s something for everyone. In its 11th year it’s set to be the biggest one yet.

ROYAL CORNWALL SHOW, THURSDAY 9TH JUNE – SATURDAY 11TH JUNE

Vintage rally

The royal Cornwall Show is the highlight of the Cornish agricultural calendar, sprawling over 10 acres there is plenty to see and do over the weekend! From animal shows to food and drink stalls, blacksmith competitions to face painting, there’s something for all the family and dogs are welcome too! This is the place to go where you can buy anything from a scone to a combine harvester.

FAL CLASSICS REGATTA, Friday 17TH june – SUNDAY 19TH JUNE

Falmouth Classics

Over three day’s watch as sail boat from all over the world compete in Falmouth’s famous sailing waters. Three exciting races over two days are held between Carrick Roads and Trefusis point with the course changing every year (and sometimes day) due to the wild nature of the sea and tides. Watch in comfort as the larger boats race past Gyllyngvase beach, right past the windows of the Flying Fish restaurant. On the Sunday be sure to catch the highlight of the regatta; the parade of Sail and Power boats headed by the Falmouth sail training ship.

FALMOUTH INTERNATIONAL SEA SHANTY FESTIVAL, FRIDAY 17TH JUNE – SUNDAY 19TH JUNE

Sea Shanty

Run on the same dates as the Falmouth Classics Regatta this festival floods the town with maritime music from all over the world. Though there are plenty of organised events throughout the town with so many shanty singers around watch out for spontaneous outburst of song as you walk through the streets! This free festival is one of the biggest in Europe and money raised is given to charity. £10,480 was raised last year for the RNLI, a charity close to the hearts of this waterside community.

If Gin is your thing then the first ever Cornish Gin Festival may be a perfect day out, a short train or boat ride from Falmouth (no driving for optimal gin tasting) the festival will be taking place in Truro.
