Easy walks from St Michaels

Pendennis Castle
Head down through our lush gardens to the seafront and follow the path along to the left towards the unmissable sight of Pendennis Castle high up on the headland. A level 15-20 minute walk will take you along the seafront, past Gyllyngvase and Castle beaches and through the shady trees to Pendennis Point. Explore the ruins of Little Dennis castle down on the rocks, soak in the sun and views and enjoy an ice-cream from the trusty van in the car park. After all, you’ve just been for a walk…

Swanpool Beach
This sandy cove is an easy 10 minute walk along the coast path from St Michael’s. From the seafront follow the path behind Gyllyngvase and up onto the coastpath. You’ll soon find yourself popping out onto Swanpool Beach alongside the brightly coloured stripy beach huts. If the short walk wasn’t enough to stretch your legs then you can hire a kayak, brave a swim or extend your walk around Swanpool Lake – a great spot for feeding the swans. If after all that you are feeling peckish then stop for a bite to eat at the beach cafe (we recommend one of their famous Quirky Ice-Creams) or head up to Hooked On The Rocks and listen to the waves crash below as you relax with a chilled glass of Prosecco and some sublime seafood.

The longer of our walks from St Michael’s which takes you to not one, but three golden sandy beaches – so plenty of places to dip your toes and cool off. Start down through our gardens and across the road to Gyllyngvase Beach, following the path across the back of the beach and along the coast to Swanpool. Once you reach Swanpool and have refuelled on their huge ice-creams then head up the hill, past Hooked On The Rocks and catch the coastpath again. The next two miles give you a chance to stretch those legs, feel the sun on your face and get that sea air glow in your cheeks before you arrive at Maenporth. If the tide is low then follow the rocks down the left hand side of the cove and you might be lucky enough to find the shipwreck enveloped in the sand. The sheltered cove is perfect for a dip and the rock pools are great for poking around in or just refreshing your weary toes.
