Our favourite spots to storm watch

Explore

The Cornish weather may not always be perfect blue skies but when the wind and rain comes head out to the coast, wrap up together and watch the storms roll in.

Nothing is as dramatic and exciting as winter storm watching. Cornwall is fully exposed to the full fury of the big winter weather systems that roll in off the Atlantic and with gale force winds come huge waves that batter the coastline. If you fancy braving the weather then wrap up warm and head out to the coast – but do take care. Porthleven, Sennen and Penzance promenade are the best places to watch extreme weather. If you both fancy staying warm and dry and sharing a cream tea then you can watch the waves at a café high on the cliffs at the Minack Theatre, The Ship Inn at Porthleven and England’s most southerly café – Polpeor at Lizard Point for an epic cream tea!
