Top 3 Falmouth picnic spots

Falmouth

With its numerous secluded view points and plenty of places to source local food, Cornwall couldn’t be more of an ideal place to find the perfect spot for a summer picnic.

We’ve made a list of the top 3 picnic places all close to St Michaels Hotel:

Pendennis Point

If you walk 20 minutes up the road, past Castle Beach you’ll reach Pendennis Point. With views that stretch across Carrick Roads towards Truro River to St Mawes, you can sit and watch the yachts zip by and look out towards Anthony’s Head Lighthouse. This picnic spot has ample parking if you don’t fancy the walk or have packed too much food to carry, and even hosts two traditional ice cream vans, if you’re craving a post picnic treat. Its location surrounds the famous Pendennis Fortress, so if it’s a historic day out that you’re after, our first picnic suggestion ticks the boxes.

Castle Drive

A further 10 minute walk beyond Pendennis Point takes you to another of our favourite picnic locations. Overlook the bustling industrial Queen Elizabeth Dockyard which sits in the third deepest natural harbour in the world and the deepest in Western Europe. This iconic dockyard holds up to 128 million litres of water, which takes three hours to fully empty. You can also see the colourful houses and shops of Falmouth Town which curve round on the left-hand side of the docks. If you need to pick up anymore food or drink, town centre is just a quick 10 minute walk away.

Boscawen Fields

In between Swanpool Beach and Gylly Beach sits Boscawen Fields, a secluded and open grassy space that most holidaymakers in Falmouth are unaware of. Enjoy sea views without the beach crowds and maybe even make use of the spacious grounds to play a game of Frisbee or catch with your family or friends. This picnic spot is a short 5 minute walk from St Michaels Hotel.
